Dr Peter Tobin, BA (Hons), PGDip MS, MBA, DPhil, PMCSSA, PMP
CURRICULUM VITAE as at 10 February 2013
Dr Peter Tobin spent nearly twenty years with one of the world’s leading suppliers of information and communications technology products and services. He then took up a new career and spent thirteen years as an academic, including responsibilities as the IT Executive for a multi-million turnover business. Dr Tobin has also offered consulting services to a wide range of clients over the past nineteen years, based on World Class methods, tools, frameworks and standards, to assist individuals, teams and organisations to improve their performance in a number of selected focus areas, including (but not limited to) Corporate and IT Governance, Project Management and Knowledge Management.
Dr Tobin is a graduate of four universities, gaining his first degree at the University of York (England), following this with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Studies at the University of East London (England). He also holds the prestigious MBA awarded by Henley Business School , graduating top of his class. He later completed his Doctorate in the field of Knowledge Management at the University of Pretoria, conducting research into the use of stories and storytelling as tools for knowledge sharing in organisations.
Whilst with IBM (SA) Peter successfully qualified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) ® with the US-based Project Management Institute ® in 1998. He has maintained his PMP ® status, having already recertified to 2014. He has been a member of the South African body for professional project managers (PMSA) since its inception and is currently one of only less than sixty Professional Grade members in South Africa among the PMSA’s membership of over 1200. He has also acted as session chair and conference paper reviewer at local PMSA conferences on a number of occasions. In 2004 he became one of a small number of South African PMP® holders to complete the challenging Foundation and Practitioner Examinations of the UK-based Prince2 methodology. Peter is also one of the very few people in South Africa to hold concurrently Professional Grade membership of the Computer Society of South Africa and PMSA. He is also an active member of the Johannesburg branch of ISACA the professional body for those interested in all aspects of IT Governance.
